My hammy doesn't like the bright bedroom light being on, so we use a touch lamp on the bedside table instead. The good thing about these is that you can adjust the level of brightness according to your hammy's mood/time of day. He is more active in his cage on the lowest setting, but is fine with the middle setting when he's running around on the bed for playtime
