Default Re: Madison's old age ailments

Skittle is the same age as Madison and he too has arthritis and is on daily metacam for pain relief, prescribed by the vet. He wobbles a lot when walking but like Madison when he puts a spurt on, the wobble seems to disappear! He has also lost weight, 23g in fact as I weighed him last night as he looked and felt a bit bony. Going to get him some jar baby food today as advice on here suggests that he may have gone off his muesli & pellets as he's also got a UTI and is on antibiotics for that, which is possibly causing his weight loss - although still taking his food, he may not be eating it. Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are good too apparently and Skittle loves those so maybe try Madison on those too? Not too many a day though, they're addictive!

Skittle's losing a bit of fur too, not much and certainly not going bald, but perhaps something not to panic over if you see that on Madison. I've noticed little sticky-out bits of fur on Skittle and when I've gently teased it because it's got like dead skin on the end, it's come out. He doesn't notice, so it doesn't hurt. He can't wash properly anymore due to not being able to bend because he's so stiff and it saddens me to see him try to scratch, but he can't reach, must drive him nuts so we try and rub his itchy bit for him but of course we're not always there . Poor thing.

But we do our best for our little hammies don't we?
