Your two cages are better than one, but one large cage would be even better as the continuous floor space gives more options for toy layout and better running space.

Could you return one cage and get your money back or credit to use on hamster food,bedding, toys

Would putting the two cages touching with small pipes to connect them be better, the same or worse than it is setup now.
