I agree with the others, when you're living under someone else's roof, it's only fair that they are allowed to set the rules however I understand the desire to want to own something that they are less keen on.

Some people aren't keen on the idea of Chinese Hamsters because of their similarities to mice and when I got my first two Chineseys, my mum really wasn't keen on them and said she wouldn't ever hold one but four years down the line, she'll happily get James out of his cage and hold him so sometimes it's just a matter of time for people to come around to an idea.

Sometimes seeing a Chinese Hamster can change someone's perception of them. Have a look on YouTube or in some of the threads posted in this part of the forum. It's a great insight into their different personalities and might give you some idea of some of the highlights and struggles associated with the species.
