Agree with velma. I wanted to get a cat but my family said no cos we already have one, so I ended up getting a hamster (with their permission as it's their house!)
Maybe in a few weeks you could ask them if you could borrow a friend's hamster for a weekend, and if they can see you can look after them well, they could change their minds? Or, maybe a Syrian, as they're bigger hamsters
