The biggest thing to remember is it's their house and their rules. They may change their mind or they may not and you have to respect their decision. If they do their change their mind it will be because you have demonstrated that you can behave in a mature fashion and have done lots of research about looking after a Chinese hamster, with both the pros and the cons. You need to not keep on at them but show that you are doing everything else at home that you're asked to do - keeping on top of grades and homework, doing chores etc.

There is no magic formula to get them to change their mind and no devious tactics will work, just show you respect them and hopefully they will come round.
