Aww, he sounds like a little sweetie! He also sounds like he's pretty tame and friendly already which is fantastic
. If all you have is the newpaper then that should be fine just for a day, alternatively you can just rip up a bunch of toilet paper (non-scented!).
Also good to know is that most hamsters can be litter trained which will make your cage cleaning a lot easier. Once you get an appropriate litter tray or even dish (you can always steal something from your kitchen cupboard) you put it in the spot he is peeing with whatever you are using for litter and then put some soiled bedding on top of it. The litter should be different from his regular bedding and substrate. Most people use sand. You can use Chinchilla sand from a petshop (make sure it says sand and NOT dust because the dust one is bad for their lungs) or you can use children's playsand you just have to stick it in the oven for 30min first.
