My previous hamsters seemed eager to get in their excercise balls and often didn't want to get out when the ball was opened. I think if they didn't like using the ball they would run away and hide.

If they enjoy running on wheels they would surely enjoy running in the ball. If the bumping into things is a worry (possible injury) use hamtrack if it's still available to buy. I had a few sets and joined them together to make a large track.
