So I've had my hamster for more than two weeks now. She is a syrian. Anyway, I've made some realizations about her behavior that I'm unsure about.

She only comes out of her hideout when it is dark, which makes sense, but if she is out of her hideout and I turn the lights on she gets jumpy and hyperactive and will chew on the bars and climb the cage walls. With the lights off she will just run on her wheel and not chew the bars or climb at all.

I'm not sure what this behavior means but she's difficult to handle when shes jumpy and running around everywhere. She will climb into my hands but it seems it's only a means of getting out. I'm trying to tame her and I think when she's like that it doesn't really work.

Is this normal? Also--side question--she runs on her wheel literally all night. She runs then gets water then gets back on, all night. Is that normal?
