Default Hemp flax vs shavings

Hi all

We may (or may not) be acquiring a Syrian tomorrow, either an adoption one or a baby. So I've set up our HH but I've used hemp flax for the substrate. In the past I've always used shavings, the hemp was for ex-Biscuit and there is plenty left.

So - is there any disadvantage / risk to using the hemp for a baby Syrian? It feels fine, not sharp etc but then my fingers are rather larger than a hams.

And any issue with changing from hemp to shavings in the future? I'm not sure they'd mix well so it would be a whole cage change and may be a bit of a shock. Having said that, if the hemp works out ok I'll just get more.
