Light grey is very rare, and the heterozygous silver grey looks similar to a light grey due to the brown tones it has. A homozygous silver grey (two copies of the gene) doesn't have the brown tone.

A dark grey umbrous would be very dark in colour, the umbrous gene darkens the ends of the fur. Dark grey without umbrous is darker than the boy you have at the moment, so he's definitely not dark grey.

The father can still be long haired and banded with silver black. Any hamster can have a pattern and any coat type with any colour. All patterns apart from roan that is, only cream based colours can be roan.

I agree with Nancy, He's a heterozygous silver grey.
