That's a shame, it did seem as though these two might actually buck the trend & make a happy couple but they will be perfectly happy living alone once they adjust, maybe happier so I'm sure you're doing the right thing.
You've been doing a really great job keeping such a close eye on them, they're obviously very well cared for.
