I've had two pairs of Russians before, both of which came as related siblings to my rescue. One pair was re-homed and lived happily until passing naturally, the other, more recently, the same story.

I actually find it stressful keeping pairs, as there is always the chance they will fall out, more so with Russians. Some shops sell Chinese hamsters in pairs too but they should live alone.
