Question Bin cage chewing

I have has my Syrian hamster Sasha for 6 weeks now. We originally had her in a too small cage, so we bought a bin cage. My husband was able to cut holes to attach the tubes from our original cage to the bin. Once that happened, I was unable to tame her, as she was always hiding in the tubes until everyone was gone, she wouldn't even leave them to pee. So I decided to take the tubes away so I could tame and litter train. She is doing great for both taming and litter training, but she has taken to chewing and digging at the blocked off tube holes. Should it get another bin cage for her while she does not have the tubes? Or should I find a glass cage for her? Once she is tame, I could put her back into the bin with tubes. Thanks!
