Try a different vet. The first one sounded uncertain of his/her ability to carry out the operation and may be issuing the antibiotics in part because of that. Presumably a vet can use google like the rest of us and see the advice that treatment is useless. If you do not have any other vet to try, go back to that one with what you have found out and have an honest conversation about it. If you are happy enough with the vet's skills to try the op, tell him/her you understand the risks and you will sign a waiver of liability for the surgery (this means you will not sue them if it goes wrong). Most vets have you sign a waiver anyway but no harm in offering.
