Don't let the dog and the hamster together ever. The dog may think it's a toy / mouse / food whatever and kill it whether by accident or not. I think you should find a safe room to put the hamster in at night. The cage needs a lid however as your dog is already suffering from anxiety and his life is upside down the last thing you want is him to be futher stressed by being banished from his usual sleeping space!
Each animal has its needs so you do need to try and balance getting it right for them all.

Thank you, I do put my hamster ontop of my wardrobe when my dog comes in during the day, I just put the cage on the floor at night so if I wake up I can just look down and check, I'll try letting the dog sleep in with the hamster cage up high tonight, I just don't want the sounds of the wheel and eating ect to set him off
