Default Re: Hamster in heat?

The smell and the tail are usually the two most noticeable indicators that a female Syrian is in heat. Some also exhibit behavioral changes - more energetic than usual, grumpier, more cuddly, etc. If you have a male hamster nearby she may try to "talk" to him through squeaks.

My girl seems to have mood swings when she's in heat. She'll go from frantically running around trying to chew on everything to falling asleep on me in a matter of minutes. She also thoroughly scent marks a particular corner in her tank - this usually involves rubbing her hips against the glass, and rolling around on her back like a dog.
