There have been a couple times in the past when my hamsters escaped, but the fun thing was that I never had to look for them as they always came looking for us or at least alerted us to where they were.

I used to keep my hamster in my home office as I used to work late and he would keep me company. A couple of times I actually found him playing around in my shredder basket. The first time he escaped, I actually blamed my friend as he was over, and he must have put him in there as a joke. The funny thing is Pepper had to climb up the side of the bin and jump in. After the third time he escaped, I finally figured out how he was getting out and secured the cage. It never happened again, but every once and a while, I would put him in the bin to play around while I worked.
