Hi guys just bought the Hamster Heaven Metro and it came with sand for the wee toilet? is this gravel/sand safe to put in?

Also it came with tube blockers but I'm yet to figure out how to clip it on, i get my little friend saturday and have been advised to block of the tubes to begin with as they tend to hide and make taming hard at first?
