I think the actual travelling part would depend to some extent on the length of time it takes, every weekend may be a bit much if it's a long journey but if you're ham doesn't stress easily & you can provide everything he needs for the trip I don't see that it would hurt to try.
I would try to make his cage as similar as possible in both places, if you could buy another cage that might help & take some of the substrate from the cage he's in with you each time so it smells familiar when he gets there.
One trip wouldn't hurt & then maybe you can better judge how he responds to the changes.
