It really just depends on a hamsters personality! My syrian boys never have really seemed to enjoy hanging out with me, but Nougat (RIP) was a hybrid ww from petco, and was the sweetest thing. We had cuddles for hours at a time, with water breaks of course, and would do a little squeek when I came to here cage. I would suggest handling them at petsmart, to really see their difference
