When I had my Syrian he lived in a Savic Mickey 2XL barred cage with 7mm bar spacing and never, ever chewed at the bars. It`s not set in stone, but I feel narrow bars help. I suppose it depends on the Syrian and how attracted they are to getting attention! My lad was a big boy, but didn`t crave attention, so maybe that`s why he never bar chewed. x
