All dwarf hamsters other than Robos are prone to diabetes, especially hybrid "Russian" hamsters, so even natural sugars from fruit such as banana can be harmful and needs to be fed cautiously if at all.

Some owners even prefer to avoid even the vegetables that are higher in natural sugars as well.
