Either way you would be getting a good hamster if they're from a responsible breeder. SO I would suggest that you might go with the hamsters that are closer. But if you want to start from a baby, 12 weeks really isn't much different, they're still babies and small. They won't be considered adults until they're 4-5 months old (which is when they're able to breed).
