In general I would say yes, but there are execptions - not all Syrians are friendly, but not all dwarfs are nippy. It does depend a lot on the individual hamster and it's personality, but personally, I think the little dwarfies have a more 'fiery' temprement than the Syrians - with the Russians at the top of the list! I have had 34 Russian dwarfs and can honestly say only one never,ever nipped or bit once, and only a handful were placid enough to only give the odd nip now and then.

3 syrians - how many didn't bite - 3
6 robos - how many didn't bite - 6
1 winter white - how many didn't bite -1
3 chinese - how many didn't bite - 3
34 russians - how many didn't bite -1

This tells me that you have more change of getting a nipper than one who doesn't, and the odds are it'd be a russian. There are exeptions but if I only got one non- nipper out of 34 that to me says that the majority do nip and my one was one of the exceptions to that rule.These all came from many different places as well so it's not a case of getting a 'bitey batch from so and so'.
