Perhaps you were thinking of Hazel Mice(dormice), p-anda? You do need a licence to keep these, even just to pet sit them. Harvest mice, as Tammy says, need no licence. In fact, my little Robin was intended as food rather than a pet, but he's taming up nicely. Since he thinks food mainly is found served in a little dish, I doubt he'd last long in the wild!
