My personal experience with visiting the vet has been in relation to respiratory illness. I had to take a syrian hamster over a period of a couple of months for medication. On the first visit i was charged around £25 ish. Hamster was checked out and medication given. For subsequent visits for the same problem I was then charged £12 each time we saw the vet, although on occassions i just got a repeat prescription - so to say - and was charged around £7.
On another occassion I took the same hamster to the same vet as she had a problem with hair loss - that time we were charged around £10 for a squirt of mite treatment on the back of her neck.
I then finally took the same hamster for a trip to the same vet (i know - drama) as she had broken her tooth. We saw the vet but had no medication and were charged absolutely nothing for the visit :-).
The vet I use in Hamilton is absolutely fab. I don't know if there is a difference between the different types of hamster and cost.
