What did the dutch breeder say then? If it's a separate mutation it seems confusing to give it the same name as one that is already contraversial.
I raised this question on a hamster discussion group populated mostly by US breeders and those working on genetics, and found out more about the hybrid mandarins that appeared a few years ago, unfortunately noone knew anything concrete and noone could find the photos showing hybrid-looking mandarin hamsters. Someone did say though that a group in Singapore, I think, had "proved" the mandarin was a pure WW mutation, I'm not sure how that was done though.
