I agree that removing the grill is a bit of a pain... I generally remove the whole lid, or wait til Luna is out for food and scoop her out through the little top door.
I havent needed to peg the wheel yet..... after the initial obsession on it, she seems to have calmed down and be back to her normal routine.... I'm usally in bed when shes running on though.
