I have never hear of cleaning them for a syrian, but I beleive that an eye should be kept on dwarf species scent glands as they are underneath and can get a bit bunged up due to substrate rubbing etc. When I took my dwarf to the vet, she gave his scent gland a clean, but when I asked if I was somthing that I should be doing myself she said no!
