Oh that cage sound plenty big for a dwarf hamster! It actually sound a bit larger then a ten gallon, or my crittertail cage, it looks like this...
I agree it couldn't hurt to buy one and give it a try. Worry about bar chewing later I suppose, that is if it occurs
I does sound more ideal especially if you have very warm summers.
