The Great Escape!

“It was safe in my little cage. I was well cared for, but I could see and smell a big world out there. I wondered what it was like. I’ve heard about ‘free-ranging’ – it sounds great! Then one night my mistress knocked the door of my cage loose. I pressed it – it swung open. I was out. At first it was so much fun exploring – so much to enjoy. But then I began to miss the food and the water – I was hungry and thirsty, and I missed my soft bed. I curled up as best I could and slept. I didn’t know how to get back to my warm, safe cage. I was afraid. Free-ranging isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Evening came and I started prowling. A hand reached down and grabbed me, but I was scared and wriggled free and wandered a bit more, looking for the way home. Then the hand came down again, scooped me up and I was back in my cage. There was so much food awaiting me, fresh water and comfortable bedding. My, did I indulge myself – never have my pouches been so full! And my mistress was SO pleased I was home – she had been looking for me since I went missing. Now I was safe!”
