.........Because mine is, when I take him out for a play, he seems to go straight for food, like if it is his goal.

I think they more want to store the food than eat it so maybe just looking to a rainy day rather than greedy. Watch out you little one does not eat the plastic bags though as that could cause him trouble!

I know that all the hamsters I have owned wouldn’t pass the chance to store a tasty morsel in his/her cheek pouches for later if it smelled good. Even if they were out for playtime.
