Default bleeding syrian hamster

my Syrian hamster(Jasmine) is 1 year and 10 months old. She is the sweetest little thing you would ever meet and has never once gotten sick. Today, out of the blue she started bleeding from her vaginal opening. we immediately took her to the vet because we were so shocked as she showed no symptoms of being sick or acting lethargic. We were told that it is likely to a tumor in one of the reproductive parts in her body but that was just a speculation. we were given antibiotics and sent home. She is getting an x-ray on Wednesday to see what's really up. do you guys have any ideas of anything else it could be that's making her bleed and foods that can help heal her or clot the bleeding since she is still bleeding quite a bit? also, should we be worried about dehydration since she is bleeding( btw she's eating, drinking water, peeing, and pooping well)
thanks for any tips!

I’m sorry to hear your ham is sick, if she’s still bleeding I would speak to the vet again & see if they can do anything before Wednesday, hams are so tiny any blood loss needs to be stopped as soon as possible.
Did the vet mention pyometra or rule that out? It’s quite a common problem with female Syrians, UTI’s & bladder stones can also cause some bleeding.
I hope the vet can help & she gets better.

It seemed the bleeding stopped now or it’s very little
The problem my vet didn’t say much he wanted us to give her the medication for few days before the X-ray
But I’m worried about her if she will be able to make it till Wednesday
I wanna give her some kind of nutrition can help her to fight
She still active and has good appetite
My opinion she passed a stone for that she is bleeding
I heard yogurt is good in this situation is that true?

Without knowing what the problem is exactly there isn’t really anything you can do with nutrition or extra food as long as she’s having a good diet anyway I wouldn’t give anything else right now.
yogurt is sometimes given to hams for it’s probiotic benefits but you would do better to give a probiotic as there isn’t really that much in the tiny amount of yogurt a hamster can eat. As she’s on antibiotics any probiotic would need to be given at least a few hours apart from the meds. Can you get Benebac in Canada?
If she’s stopped bleeding then it may be best to give the antibiotics a chance & see how she goes, if you’re worried she may not be ok until Wednesday then I would speak to your vet.

Hi, sorry to hear you are going through this with your little one. The bleeding could be caused by a no. Of things as Cypher already mentioned Pyometra, Uti
Kidney/liver failure due to old age or something else. In my experience your vet seems to be doing the right thing, a course of antibiotics and further tests. Goodluck.

Following, my syrian started doing the exact same thing on Nov 18th. We took her to vet and she was given antibiotics. It went away for 2weeks but now came back today. So we are in same boat as you. Please keep me updated. I am calling vet in morning.

I am so sorry to hear that,
My beautiful Jasmine passed away, she was the best thing that happened in our life.
Apparently, it was cancer but I was glad she wasn't in pain she was taking anti-inflammatory beside the antibiotic, and that helped her a lot not to be in pain
But the last day she passed away she wasn't able to move her body at all.
She left us in peace we will not forget her.

I'm so sorry! Our Syrian is getting worse. She now has a small lump on her hip and now today she started to drag her back legs a little bit. This is the absolute worst thing to go through and deal with. I feel your pain. What is the name of the anti-inflammatory she was on?

I'm so sorry to hear that, but it's exactly the same stages for our lovely Jasmine
the day she passed away she couldn't move her body at all
Unfortunately I don't know the name of the medication but the vet should know, it helps she doesn't feel any pain.
I was feeding her by my hand the last few days because she wasn't able to walk so be sure to do that till the last moment water and food and I gave her the goat milk for hamsters it helped too
