Default Outdoor living

I have a Syrian hamster and would love to keep him outdoors during the summer. Is this advisable and if so how could I do this x

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Do you mean in a shed or like a hutch type set up directly outside?

If the latter it isn't adviseable at all no. The risk of predators for one thing and the temperature changes (even in our current heatwave) could be too harsh on their little bodies.

You can let your hamster have play time outside if you wish to though. Make sure there are no dangerous weeds or flowers around and never unattended. Some hamsters enjoy a little early evening potter on the grass in an enclosure

Absolutely not. Hamsters belong indoors at all times and even supervised play outside is very dangerous and strongly discouraged!

They are indoor pets. I carried my hamster outside once to see if he'd like it but he hated it and became agitated and scared so i never tried again with any of my hamsters.

They are not as robust as guinea pigs or bunnies who can live outdoors during the summer.

Another possible risk would be hamsters picking up parasites and mites etc which could leave them ill and you with a vet bill.
