Smile Introducing Twinkle

I did it again, another rescue adopted from Austin's Hamster Rescue and finally a boy and a little bit younger for once, 6-7.5 months.

He is a bit of a scaredy cat, so taming is going slowly. I will have had him 2 weeks tomorrow, he will take food off me, step onto my hand for food, has just started to walk across my hand if it is in the cage (but still suspicious) but still spooks at any little bit of noise and shoots back to the safety of his house. then ventures back out again.
Because of this, do you think I should leave it longer to clean him out, so far I have left his cage totally alone for 2 weeks. I just don't want to stress him out but also I don't want him left in a dirty cage. Thoughts please???

and here is the link to the video on YouTube introducing him

I think he is a black eye, long haired white, but on a night you can kind of see cream patches in his coat - so any body an expert on this and confirm what colour he is?

Congratulations Luna, you have a heart of gold.
I wouldn’t do anything except spot clean his pee area and do that only when really necessary. The rest of his cage can wait for weeks until you are sure he is well settled. Nothing else smells and you don’t want to undo the good work you are doing now.
Colour I leave to the experts!

Thanks Coco, oops, I should have been clearer, I meant do i clean his pee/poo area out under his house, or leave for a while longer, I won't be touching anything else in his cage for about another month at least.

Twinkle is a super cutie and looks a bit cheeky, hope he'll settle in nicely with you.

Aww, Luna! I am so so happy for you.Twinkle (love the name, we sign the song in the day centre i sometimes work) is a little cutie and must be so happy to be living with you.
I'd carefully remove the roof of his house to have a sniff and peek then decide if the pee corner needs cleaning or not.

I’d just leave him a bit longer If it gets very smelly he might chuck some old substrate out of the house . Congratulations he is gorgeous. Having said that if you wanted to now tempt him out for some playpen time that could be a good time to do a teeny bit of pee spot cleaning - not too much - and then put 2 or 3 treats in to distract him when he goes back in.

Aww twinkle is just gorgeous! Congratulations on his arrival. I am sure he will settle in soon. Our dwarf boo was easily spooked but he did get over that in time. I’m sure twinkle will with your expert care x

That's a good idea Ria, why didn't I think of that Sometimes we stress so much over our little ones, common sense goes out the window!
