I think they maybe look more interesting because they do whole sections with sand and plant things etc, but I don't want to take that risk with my hamster and plants. Also if i create a sand area that is not contained in it's own tub/tin whatever it's just a lot more work to maintain and keep clean and tidy. Maybe I just have to accept my limits for now due to my own health and energy levels.
this is how i feel about it, i would love to have super complex and interesting enclosures but i have three hamsters and work a lot so i wouldn’t want to spend the time needed to tidy all those little areas and different substrates. its just too overwhelming. maybe if i had one hamster but i definitely couldn’t do it currently

I finally managed to add the cardboard tube to Twinkle's cage last night. Fingers crossed it seems to have worked, I haven't seen him climbing up on the outside of it, but have seen him dive in and out of it a few times. It goes from the corner of his house on the left hand side of the cage to the bendy bridge which is in the middle of the cage. he still has enough room to manoeuvre underneath and around it, as he loves to sit on top of this house and reach up, when he wants to come out.

Such a wonderful video.

How do you find out which hamsters austins have for adoption? I have often thought of adopting from them but could never find the list.

Twinkles fur March 2020 v Now

Twinkle now and then .jpg

These aren't the best photos, but they do show his glorious fluff off

Twinkle fur 2.jpg

All the bum fluff growing out the end is new, just the last month or so. Does anyone know if this is an age thing? He is approx 1 and a half now.

I don't know the answer to your question because i've never had a long haired hamster.

Did you actually know that Twinkle was long haired when you got him?
There is such a huge difference in his appearance and he could have passed as a short haired hamster in the first photos before he turned into this amazing ball of fluff.
