Very very very very exciting morning!

I didn't see Mocha much the past two nights, we kind of woke and slept at very unsynced times. I was on the brink of worry that he'd made this super hard to catch-routine, but this morning he surprised me again by being up and about at 9 AM. So I saw an opportunity to finally take him out and sit down with him in a playpen set. He did so well. At first kind of skittish but still less than I had imagined. Climbing and exploring all over, both on me and the things I had provided. He even accepts petting which I am so so happy about.

I had him out for about 20 minutes, then put him back to let him gather himself to go to sleep for the day. During his last preparations, I still put my hands in his enclosure which he willingly came to sniff and allowed me to pet over his head and back. I look forward to seeing him tonight. Big steps taken!

Thank you!
It's rough losing our friends, but I am indeed grateful to get to know and care for this little being now.

P L A Y P E N S E S S I O N

Mornings seem to be our current meeting time as today he again came out to socialize between 9 AM and 11 AM. I made a couple of items for his playpen, crocheting jute and sisal string. The bridge didn't turn out stiff as I had planned, but hey, haha. Also, the wheel is temporary. I built it the other day to facilitate if he does want to run, but I'll keep the stand and put a bigger sized container, making it suitable for any size he'll grow to.

We spent another 20 minutes in the pen together and this time I got some footage of him. (I split it into two parts - about a minute and a half in total).

I'm wondering if his behavior is a lot stressy, or sort of acceptable stressy for being a second time out of his enclosure. Maybe someone could offer an opinion on that, any input is greatly appreciated.

I use the terracotta pot to transport him (it's been in his enclosure for a bit and he is in and out of it a lot). Overall he's very used to my hands now, he doesn't mind being petted unless I accidentally surprise him which is understandable, and even then all he does is jump or twitch a little. He's mostly hiding underneath me or close to me, I'm guessing that is a good thing, rather than on the opposite side of the pen. When I took him back to his home he seemed calm, spent some time foraging while I talked to him and watched until he went to bed.

This playpen set is very temporary, I plan to expand it slowly and use different material from the cardboard. Eventually, he will be able to free-roam my entire room, because it is small enough and nothing on his height that can endanger him. That is down the line though.

Me and Mocha have taken some more steps and are developing our friendship.
He is quite easy to handle now and trust my hands around him, which I am very pleased with.

I built him a better playpen, basically framing him into a third of my room and he seems super content roaming in that for now, and there's plenty of space for me to sit in there with him. The terracotta pot is very much his 'taxi' and I handle it as such, he willingly goes into it even when he seems spooked so the trust is definitely there, making it easy to bring him in and out of situations. Soon I will take some time and design and make some fun, bigger hides and toys for his play area.

Today he started to climb on me voluntarily and he does the 'palm to palm walk' pretty smoothly (at least as smooth as I manage to offer my hands ).

I experimented with growing barley sprouts for him and they grew quite high very quickly. I offer a little to him in his enclosure in the small pots (I love them).
I'm going to try growing some other things next.

His hours have become pretty solid. He tends to show his face around 9-11 PM and has his dinner, then stays up doing his thing until early morning hours. He is normally awake again between 9-12 AM, which usually is when I get to have him out of his enclosure and interact with him.

He is very entertaining, just enjoying my time with him really.

Sorry, Mocha!

While he was having his free-roaming time today I took the opportunity to glue the broken off walls back on his house. Of course, this meant I had to take it out, so when I put it back it obviously didn't have his interior design intact, even though I put most of his bedding back in.

Now he seems so confused and has taken refuge in the tunnel where he has slept on occasion. He is up and down to re-check his house, moving the top to the side to make an entrance rather than use the front door, but won't really settle. I do hope he will.

I'm going to get him a second whimzee, since the one he took into his lair seems to have been devoured. A peace offering is in order.

I still felt bad for the other day, changing his stuff around but when I was done, it didn't seem right.

So today I decided to take out his house from underneath the platform and put up higher, supported by two stilts, and attached securely to the platform. This way, he has a lot more space to burrow under the platform (in approx 25-30cm / 10-11 inches) of bedding, which he could tunnel down into from his house where there is a hole in the floor. I feel good about freeing up some more space for him and it'll be so much easier for me to clean when I need to.

I hope he'll follow my enticing trail and re-install himself in his house tonight.
