Pickle's Thread
I am very happy and lucky to have brought home a new baby hamster from Souffle's Ketzinicos litter. Custard's Eldorado - now called Pickle
He is a lovely cinammon boy, slept during the train journey and had a little snack and stroke on the sofa before going into his new cage. Don't have a very good picture of him yet, since he arrived so just these two - I couldn't take any when I was handling him . But there are some lovely photos of him on Souffle's Ketzinicos thread. He is lovely and tame.
Once in the cage, he didn't really explore, but found the house and went inside - and hasn't come out again yet. I am sure he will settle in but after not much sleep and first night away from his brothers, he is bound to want to just stay in house (until lights out I expect).

He then found a towel to sit under and I just got his back view

He is in the Barney cage, which I fiddled around with for ages to set up with shelves that went all the way round. No wheel just yet as that will be introduced slowly. I still need to add a couple of things to give more overhead cover so it feels cosier (getting another sputnik ).

Re: Pickle's Thread
Thank you This morning the veg, most of his bowl of food, a chewstick and various treats scattered around, plus a lot of paper strips have all gone, so it looks like he has built a nest and started hoarding and settling in. I also forgot to mention that he is related to Newt - I think it is grand nephew isn't it Souffle?

Re: Pickle's Thread
Oh wonderful news indeed. Welcome to your forever home little Pickle. Love your nose and tail and hope to see more of the in between bit soon! He looked a beautiful cinnamon boy with his brothers and in the individual photos. It's a lovely extra that he is Newt's great nephew.
Look forward to following his exploits as he settles in.

Congratulations Serendipity. I bet it will be nice for Souffle to see what one of the babies gets up to with you posting on here.

Re: Pickle's Thread
Pickle has been out getting his food and veg every night and rearranged a few chews etc! He has been hiding away a bit and only coming out after we’ve gone to bed but it has only been two nights. May try and tempt him out for some handling tonight. Meanwhile I have added a couple more things to his cage - partly to make it cosier and partly to avoid a couple of possible fall risks I spotted - onto his steps or bendy bridge. So he now has a second Sputnik which partly hangs over the steps, a tube which goes over the bendy bridge and a bit of hemp may stuck onto the steps that aren’t completely covered by the Sputnik so if he did happen to fall from the roof onto the steps it would be a soft landing. It also gives more places to go and I prefer his set up to moos now.
He can go up the steps to the left shelf and then either through the Sputnik and tunnel to the right shelf, or round the back shelves and up the little ramp to the right shelf, or get down or up part way round the back shelves via the bendy bridge.
Moo uses his roof tunnel a lot so hopefully pickle will like his.
It also makes more overhead cover in the cage so it doesn’t seem so high/ open and exposed so he should feel more secure.
Now I just need to tempt him out!
