Re: Pickle's Thread
Thank you Savannah and Vierville. Pickle is easier to take pics of than Moo as he does sit still sometimes! Moo never stops moving.

Re: Pickle's Thread
The photos and video of Pickle were adorable. Such a naughty face too - and this was before he went off on his escapades out of the cage. Having a good wash made me laugh. I really miss seeing that and Pickle reminds me of Maestro. Such beautiful colouring.

Re: Pickle's Thread
Thank you Coco. He often reminds me of Charlie - particularly when he was sitting like that before his wash - and similar personality. Although not grumpy like Charlie haha. Pickle has a lovely nature - even if going through the naughty twenties at the moment.

Re: Pickle's Thread
aww he is gorgeous, lovely photos, loved the video, you sound just like me talking to my hammies
I have to say the furniture reminds me of when I was a child, my mum and next door neighbour made furniture for sindy dolls. My next door neighbour cut the wood and my mum upholstered them. Every time I have looked at your photo on the main page it has reminded me of that.

Re: Pickle's Thread
I am not sure where the furniture came from originally Luna - I saw it in a second hand bric a brac type place and hamsters came to mind . Just the right size for a Robo!

Love the out takes & enjoyed watching the vid, looks like Pickle had great fun doing his photo shoot!
I think we all probably have hammie voices don’t we!

Re: Pickle's Thread
Love the photos and video. Pickle is a handsome boy and so photogenic. They are all great pics but my favourite is pic 3 where he comes out of the tube smelling the food. I can almost see the whiskers working overtime.
My OH asked me why i talk to the hamsters like they were babies and i have to smile when he has conversations with Henry starting off with "Hello mate, how ya doing?"

Re: Pickle's Thread
Ha ha. Your OH has a point - and an old hamster isn’t a baby. But they respond to tone of voice - like babies who can’t talk or understand language so tone of voice is the communication. Some people talk to their partners in lovey dovey baby way as well sometimes! Pickle definitely recognises his name. His whiskers twitch when I say it and he looks up sometimes. I look forward to hearing how the hammies respond to hello mate from a man. Maybe it doesn’t matter how we talk to them as long as the tone is friendly- the main thing is they become familiar with voices and scents of owners and trust you. I do sort of think of hamsters as my babies and they maybe think it is very silly lol. I also talk in my “explanatory “ voice sometimes and I swear they listen and understand! Like explaining there is going to be a slight change but not to worry because I will be careful and keep things the same as much as possible. Or when apologising for leaving him out all night (about three times!). Apologising about three times that is - not leaving him out three times.

Re: Pickle's Thread
As mentioned elsewhere, Pickle is going to get a cage upgrade to the Savic Plaza and a larger house. When I finally receive a cage that isn’t broken. Moo is already in a Plaza but I don’t want to disrupt him as he is settled in there so a second plaza it is.
Pickle is a very large hamster now and doesn’t quite fit in his house - he can hardly move in it without the top popping off. So I think he will very much appreciate the labyrinth house. He’ll still have the big front door so it shouldn’t be too much of a change.
He did a Charlie this week and cleaned out his own house . It may be he just copied me when I did some spot cleaning in his cage - removed the odd handful with poops in and put new handfuls in. Next morning I found a pile of old nesting material with lots of poops - outside the front door of his house - for me to take away I assume! So I spot cleaned that and put some new nesting material out and that has all gone.
