Re: Pickle's Thread
Haha! Pickle's "ostrich" made me laugh! He's settling in well and rearranging his furniture already. Lovely hamster!

Re: Pickle's Thread
Interesting to note the slight character change in the great nephew! Lovely playpen time and introduction to a wheel. Best of all are the photos of Pickle in the donut bed. Settling in that so young at playtime too. I did love Charlie in his donut bed.

Re: Pickle's Thread
I weighed Pickle tonight while he was out in the playpen - he looks a lot bigger! It's just two weeks yesterday since he arrived so he's 8 weeks old. He weighs 156g.
Decided to put the wheel in his cage tonight as well. He's been in it a couple of times in the playpen and doesn't go too crazy on it so should be fine having it in the cage now. He still hasn't quite got the hang of making it spin all the way round and sits and swings in it He seemed more interested in the flying saucer and has had a good run on that in the playpen.
Here he is

Re: Pickle's Thread
I screwed the Karlie wheel to the roof of the cage as found I didn't have anything the right height to stand it on. Removed one of the small back shelves to fit it in. The original idea was to have the wheel on a stand in front of the shelves but when I put the roof tubes in there wasn't going to be space for that. Anyway it fits well between the shelves at the back. Pickle had a look round the cage while I was taking pictures of the wheel

Re: Pickle's Thread
That was a clever idea with his wheel, His little face is so cute in the photos with his little cosy pouch thing.

Re: Pickle's Thread
Yes, that works really well thw way you've attached the wheel to the roof.
What a beautiful coat Pickle has! He's so handsome.

Re: Pickle's Thread
Thank you Yes he does look happy in that little donut bed The wheel idea wasn't mine - I think it was Leedshams and others who first did it I did actually try using a house underneath for the wheel to stand on but the wheel was touching the roof of the cage! I guess the other alternative is to glue legs on the wheel base.
It is strange to see him grow so quickly! He has quite a cosy nest now - but still on top of his toilet. He is peeing in the other room so will add a toilet there.

Re: Pickle's Thread
I decided to have a change from the silent runner and save some pennies - although if this wheel breaks I will get another silent runner! Some of them last a long time and some have problems within 9 months. It won't be easy to clean fixed like that though!

Re: Pickle's Thread
Use wing nuts and slightly longer bolts then its a lot easier to remove.
