Default screaming at vet

Took my not-so-well-tamed hamster Toffee (~6.5 mo I guess) to her first vet visit for a regular checkup. She was not happy but still okay when the assistant picked her up, but she started screaming as the doctor took her. I have never heard a hamster screaming before. It took her a minute or two to stop.

Has anyone had similar experience before? I am not sure if I should take her to the vet next year.

I've never heard a hamster scream but have read that they only scream when extremely frightened.

Personally, i'd only take my hamsters to the vet if they'd need medical treatment for an illness or injury.

They sound awful when they scream. I've only heard my hams do it when I'm first bringing them home in the car.

I also wouldn't be bringing my hams to the vet regularly unless there are symptoms to treat. You can do a basic health check yourself (teeth, claws, skin etc) and it's much less stressful for them.

Hamsters don't need regular vet health visits like dogs and cats might so I wouldn't take a hammy to the vet unless they were unwell and needed medical attention or if they needed something like teeth clipping or nails. With teeth I would ask for a short whiff of gas so this could be done easily and the teeth burred shorter. With a proper diet and correctly aligned teeth though this should not be necessary. Hamsters teeth are surpisingly long normally so don't fret if you see them yawn!
I would not do regular vet checks myself.

I only take my hammys to the vets when they need to, as they really don't like it/
You can weigh them regularly, check teeth, unine shade and poop at home, which are normal indicators of health

When I first got my hamster I took her to the vet to make sure she was healthy (good thing I did because she had worms), and she screamed when the vet took her. She was untame too.

Thanks to everyone for your advice! I won't take my hamster to vet again unless she has any unusual symptom in the future.

I also wanted to confirm with the vet that my ham is doing well. Although I was terrified by Toffee's scream, the vet did lecture me and give advice on her diet, things to monitor, etc.
