Re: Moo's thread
Moo has lost weight just recently. Gone down to 135 g in the last month and feeling boney. His normal weight was about 157g. He is about 18 months now so older but I’ve started giving him soft foods in case it’s toothache and he’s not actually eating food much. He seems very active and seems to eat well but might just be hoarding it. Haven’t found the teaspoon yet.

Re: Moo's thread
He sounds fine even with the weight loss, hope he doesn't have toothache & just needs a bit of a boost with some tasty softer foods as he's getting a little older now.
Good luck with the teaspoon hunt!

Re: Moo's thread
It was Moo who came to the cage door to come out tonight. He must have heard Pickle out last night. Whatever Pickle does, Moo does So an opportunity to weigh him again after a week and having soaked science selective for a week as a supplement. However he wasn't in the mood for sitting still and I got two different readings. The first was 144g (with a pouched walnut). The second was 150g (with a pouched walnut and a piece of cucumber). So not exactly sure what he weighs but he has put a bit of weight back on it seems so I suspect it's teeth. He still feels a bit bony but never did have much padding on him.

Re: Moo's thread
That's really sweet that Moo does whatever Pickle does Good to hear he's put on a bit of weight now, hope that continues & his teeth aren't bothering him too much.

Re: Moo's thread
Thank you Cypher. Yes it’s a bit worrying when he’s an older hamster in case he needs anything from the vets at some point but presumably they will do things over the phone like Doctors are.

I'm sorry to hear of Moo's weight loss. Have you felt his abdomen for internal tumors? This was the reason for my Monty's sudden weight loss. I know that aging does this too but worth just giving Moo a check.
I hope it's nothing though.

Re: Moo's thread
Thank you Vierville. Yes I do wonder about that and his tummy did feel a bit swollen a couple of weeks ago but not now. I know they can develop a number of conditions in old age so I’ll have to see how he goes. He has put a bit of the weight on again though since supplementing with softened food and he really likes it - sits waiting for the extra dish to appear and looking for it!

Re: Moo's thread
Moo is doing fine on his soft food and seems to have stopped losing weight. He seems fine in himself and enjoys food. He loves the softened science selective. I do love his happy little face peeking out of his sputnik - he leans out a bit and we do nose to nose He doesn't shrink away from that like some hamsters. He always looks happy peeking out of his sputnik window.

Re: Moo's thread
Moo looks so content peeking out of his sputnik. Does he like porridge? That's quite nourishing too.
