Default Tips on having 2 syrians in the same room

Hi, so ive sort of "aquired" an extra Syrian, Im aware that hamsters are extremely territorial and am really debating if ive made a mistake because of my hamster, I don't want him sad or a bloodbath!

Theres a few things id really appreciate knowing

Will they be stressed if they can smell eachother? Is there any chance that they could not care theres another hamster or (I doubt it) "get along". How can I make it so both hamsters are happy in the same room? Literally any tips from people who have more than one ham in a space.

*Their both male*
*Both Syrian*
*opposite sides of the living room*

Hoji, my hamster, and the newbie Ben both seem to have chilled personalities, i'm aware this question may seem a little dim but I just desperately want to make sure both parties remain happy.

Thanks

Hi and welcome!

As long as they never come nose to nose and have absolutely no physical contact ever they should be alright because they are both male. I don't think sharing a room would stress them out.

I have two male hamsters but different species living in the same room and asked the same question as you. Just wash your hands between handling them so they can't smell the scent of the other on you.

They are very territorial about their own habitats and Syrians don't get along or make friends so they need to be kept apart at all times.

It is nice to have more than one hamster. I started off with one and acquired a further two so now have a Trio.

I think it's fine - plenty of people do this. Just don't let them out at the same time , which I know you won't. Thin Lizzy commented recently that they sometimes compete with each other for attention when there is more than one! I think it's nice or interesting in a way for them,to be aware of another hamster around and as long as their cage/territory is sacrosanct they should be fine. When I had our robo in the living room and our Syrian in a different room, the Syrian, when roaming in the living room, was very interested in the area where the robos cage was and would have a good sniff around there (and pick up any bits of dropped food!). He seemed curious.

I have two syrians, both female. Star couldn't care less about Luna, but Luna on occasion goes into full on sniffing mode. I too worry about it stressing her out, but I kind of reckon loads of people have far more than 2 hamsters and obviously breeders and rescues will have a load of hamsters all in the same room.
I have their cages opposite ends of the room. Also when it comes to free roaming, I have one in a run and one in the conservatory, no way can they get to each other and I am there supervising. To be honest though, majority of the time Star wakes up earlier than Luna, so she's out first then Luna for a little bit later on.
I can't use the conservatory in the winter so I am looking into being able to section 2 parts of my bedroom off for them, so they can both mark their own territory without stressing Luna out. Like I said Star doesn't care.

I have often had syrians living next to each other. It was amusing when I had two males and a female in the same room they would make great sneezy squeak kind of noises to each other!!!

Never saw any signs of stress. I put cardboard between the cages to prevent nose to nose contact.

Obviously don't put them in the same cage, but having 2 in the same ROOM would be fine (I think)!

I only own one Syrian, and I don't have any experience in owning 2 at the same time.

All I can say is: make sure that they don't meet!
