Default Introducing Hammy

Evening all you hamster enthusiasts! Well I am introducing our new addition called Hammy who is 10 weeks old, I’m only allowed to refer to Hammy as my fur grand baby ( my 10 year old son insists I’m only there to help and that Hammy is his ) and we have had Hammy for nearly 2 weeks. He was bought ( after a long process of reading up and doing our homework) as part of my son’s recovery process following an operation. Settling in is going well, we are taking it slow and Hammy likes a nice stroke and takes food from both of us. He has some toys in his cage but I think it’s probably best to start to consider a bigger cage in the very near future ( we have the Pets at Home large cage ), we removed the tubes following 3 days of Hammy just sitting in the tubes, they are not the biggest of tubes and with a tubby Hammy it was the best thing to do, he has made a lovely house and seems more sociable. We did buy a ball but Hammy doesn’t seem to like it so have built a playpen and he enjoys a run around and climb with some bigger toys. Hammy is eating well and drinking and has started to follow us round the room when he is awake. Any further suggestions gratefully received and looking forward to more holding and handling of Hammy. I’ve tried to upload a photo but it’s saying it’s too big !

He sounds adorable <3

Yea pets at home cages are not very big when you start to realise what hamsters actually need. A lot of people recommend cages from Zooplus (the Alexander or Barney I believe) and are not to expensive compared to pets at home - currently on offer too! They have lots of offers on toys and cage accessories too.
I have a DIY cage which you can find lots of tutorials on youtube for. Similar price to shop cages but bigger. Just depends on your finances and resources really.

Sounds like your doing an amazing job and he is going to be one spoilt hammy Enjoy playing with him and hopefully many snuggles to come!
