New Syrian Hamster Owner
Hi all!
I just recently purchases a Syrian hamster after my dwarf hammy, Milk, passed away over the weekend. I got my new hammy from a pet store, and she was with another of her kind but was definitely friendly to me. I purchased her, brought her home, and noticed she is very jumpy and afraid of almost everything.
She has a much larger wheel compared to what she had, which was pitiful, and has a new one (much bigger) on the way. She has many hides but chooses to stay squished in one corner of her tank and hardly moves (or I just cannot catch her moving). She also has not eaten the food I gave her, which is as similar to the kind the pet store was feeding her but with the correct percentages of protein, fat, etc.
I know the taming process is long depending on the hamster, as I tamed my last two dwarves with no problem. But she is so afraid, and seems to stay along the back wall of her tank. Ive only had her one day! So this could be first day jitters and getting used to new smells, sounds, and environment.
I'm just a little discouraged and would like some pointers on how to make her more comfortable. Thank you in advance!
