That's it! Call him Yeti. Out there somewhere but never been seen. You may well become an expert on taming.....once he surfaces, lol.

It's true as far as I understand from others here. That's why I invested in a string. I am as daft as any other hamster Mum on here. Can sit in the dark with only the red lights on and hope to be granted an audience!

I've arranged the red cherry blossom lights around Henry's cage and can see him a lot better now, sitting in his coconut (where else..sigh) eating a shreddie. Thank you for the tip Coco.

I've seen a thread here called " how to tame a burrower " but don't know where it is located.

Coco's tip with the red lights was a success. After an hour of munching, washing and looking Henry shot out of his coconut and walked up and down his suspension bridge and tunnel, climbed on the shelves and lost his footing once falling into the sandpit which of course required a thorough grooming session. The lights didn't bother him at all and i could see him so much better. I did stay up till way after midnight though to be able to observe him.

Hope your pet camera arrives soon so you get an idea of what he's up to at night. They seem to establish a routine after a while, Henry did anyway. Not that his routine includes me, lol, i have to demand some 1:1 time now and again.
The introduction of free roaming was a major break through, he really enjoys that now..when he's in the right mood.

Ragna and Henry may have similar temperaments. I'm looking forward to the time when he lets you into his life but you may well have to coax your way in.

Thanks Coco for the advise on the lights. Seeing Ragna isn’t an issue...he just doesn’t show up until way after 12am...lol! I will persevere and the camera will help. I totally agree that Henry and Ragna have similar traits. I giggled with Henry having to clean himself after falling...funny little chap!

After chatting to a member who kindly gave me advice on adjusting my cage I am going to make some changes to assist Ragna in using his home and then his toilet so that I am able to spot clean and also interact more with him. Watch the space...

It’s still a long road to Ragna...lol! I honestly thought it would end when I brought him home...lol..he may live in the same house but I am yet to really meet him - lol

Ragna has had his cage adjusted and will post pictures on his other thread (Ragna’s cage set up) and will pop the video of me releasing him into his cage.

I was in the process of removing the substrate in the corner to fit his new shoebox house which is a bit bigger and was thinking to myself that Ragna had caught a Saudia flight out of the country without an exit re-entry visa when all of a sudden he popped out of the corner. The substrate was on 13 inches in that corner and he had made life in the depths of that corner. No wonder he was happy to surface only when necessary. I used a mug to coax him into his travel box so I could finish off making adjustments. I made a video of releasing Ragna and will link it when I’ve put it on YouTube.

He was very calm when he climbed into the mug and burrowed in his travel box and snoozed while I was busy. He is looking so well. His eyes are bright and his nose is clear. He has also dropped that fat he had from eating a diet consisting mainly of corn filler. He is still nice and round but he is looking healthier and he was really calm. I felt bad disrupting him but it’s necessary to intervene and make adjustments so keep things under control as far as cleaning and seeing him regularly to check for health issues etc. He moved in and out of the mug so sweetly which is a good start - yay! Can’t wait to share the video with you of him going into his new house...really was great seeing him. I left a cucumber for him to nibble and when I checked it was gone.
