I'm sure he will become confident very soon with such an amazing owner like you, and such a lovely place to stay in.

Remember to talk gently near him (it doesn't have to be at him, you could just be talking or singing in the background), and add your scent to his tissues so that he will get used to you more quickly!
Thanks for the encouragement...will let him know I’m around. Will add tissue.

Congratulations on the arrival of Ragna, it has been such fun following the preparations for the arrival. Fabulous set up for him.
Thanks Coco☺️☺️☺️...looking forward to getting a proper look at him...he is very shy😂😂

I will admit to being one of the older members here and so technology does not come easily to me! The zmodo was a Xmas present from my adult daughter. Not expensive. I have got it out as I have not used it for a bit. I googled zmodo and see that the market and models have exploded. My box says- HD wireless camera. I will attach a photo of the camera I have just taken. Yes, you download an App, for mine it was called Zsight. The camera plugs into the mains with the lead provided so I have to put it on a chair and adjust height on books to get the view I want. Cannot be too far from the cage. Maybe models are better now. Then to test it out I have gone to another room to watch the cage when he is out so I can watch via the App. On phone or iPad in my case. This means you can use the App from long distance if need be. I did trust my H to feed him properly when I was away but missed him. On my camera the images are in black and white when watching as the light is off in the room at the time.

That is so awesome...will wait for Ria to let us know if there is another model that might be more updated or if this one is the easiest one out there to operate. Lol...I leave my Hubby to do all the technology.

I just told him I want a video cam thingy to show what Ragna gets up to at night and he started eating his beard😂😂. He thinks I’ve finally lost it😂😂😂. He keeps on asking me when the hamster is going to appear. I find him looking over the cage and asking me if the hamster is still there😂😂😂 he cannot understand how I can spend a small fortune and all this time and money on an animal I can’t see. Lol!

Know the feeling! When my boy at the time was being a little reclusive, I knew perfectly well he was coming out once the lights went out and I went to bed. I set up the camera and watched him from bed via the iPad. Fooled him! My H was good enough to go and turn the camera off when I had seen enough to know all was well in hamsterland.

Giggle!

Coco - please go back in this thread to where I explain my situation with spot cleaning. I am not able to spot clean at all. Ragna is not using his house and the toilet in his house is not being used. It takes time to order more substrate and I banked on only removing the bedding in stages in 2 to 3 months relying on the fact that I spot clean daily. Ragna has made amazing tunnels and a nest elsewhere but it’s impossible for me to get to clean anything. Any experience with that? Should I order more megazorb and Fitch now in case I have to remove it all in two weeks or So?

No. No need to rush into ordering any more substrate yet. I use Fitch and tear up pieces of white unscented toilet paper for Maestro to find and take into his nest himself.
Ragna will be peeing somewhere but don't be tempted to remove all his bedding and substrate in 2 weeks time hunting for his pee spot. It may well be buried a bit. If you remove everything in 2 weeks, then just as he has settled in and scented his house, along comes a big bad human and removes everything familiar. Remember they have poor eyesight and rely on smell and then hearing. I don't spot clean daily. It may not be popular to say so, but why? They love their smell. Every 2/3 days is good enough. In the heat maybe 2 days but go slowly as he settles in. My lovely Mocho used a potty from the start bless him and I had to get used to my current boy Maestro ignoring both sand baths in his cage. He has a two roomed house ( see Rodipet) and chooses to use the outer room as his en suite bathroom and also stores some food there too. Yuk. That is the only place I have to clean out. I check his nest room occasionally but I do not change it that often. Very stressful for him. I apologise for any cleaning, as he comes to check out what I am doing, by giving him a special nut treat I have waiting specially. The rest of his cage is fine and has been for months. He does not burrow but uses the tunnels and hides and shelves in the cage. So I can keep an eye on things and only remove and replace a little Fitch when I feel an area needs it. Be patient, Ragna is probably peeing a bit here and there. He will settle on a favourite place soon enough. Then put some of the smelly Fitch into the potty and put it into the chosen corner/spot. If you are lucky Ragna will get the hint. If not, in the end your nose will lead you to his chosen place! The sniff test! Then you can deal with it, but not daily.

That must be the joke of the year! I am totally clueless about pet cameras so don't wait for me, lol. My OH is into cameras, computers etc big time but i don't want to ask him because he's already giving me funny looks when i have whole conversations with the hamster. I did his monthly cage clean tonight and also apologized to Henry for causing the upheavel then gave him a piece of cheese as a peace offering. I saw a paper substrate i liked in the little pet shop and used that tonight but it fluffed up so much it nearly spilled over, mind you the clue was in the word compressed. Henry gave me funny looks and waded around like in deep snow!

Right. I've just ordered the ieGeek 1080P pet camera from Amazon in black. Should be here Sunday. Just for once i will outwit this hamster who is sitting in his coconut waiting for me to go to bed. I know he's annoyed that i'm staying up late because every time i talk to him he turns round and shows me his bum.
