Default Shan-hams - Sipping on Jin and Goose

Jin and Goose, gin and juice? Does that work? I could try and work Pico in there but I don't know if a Pickled Onion is an acceptable ingredient in any cocktail.

I need a repository for vids and pics and the occasional Why Would You Do That???

So this is Pico/ Pickled Onion/Picometer being a very tiny unit of measurement.

She's a Very Good Girl who started out a mental little whizzball (hence this being the only decent picture of her) who climbed and monkeybarred constantly so all I could hear when I was in bed was a series of tiny soft thuds so I knew she was up. She got better at going back down then got bored of climbing when it wasn't an extreme sport anymore and now is mostly subterranean in her middle age. She snatches food that is snatchable and sits in your hand for seeds but mostly does her own little thing.

Next is Jin, she's still a mental little whizzball.

She mesh-chewed/fussy-madam'd her way out of the detolf and honestly she's still trying to climb out of her DIY right now, I can hear scrabbling. She is obsessed with jumping off my bed and trying to scale vertical walls. I have one duvet set left without holes and she's started stripping wallpaper now too. Only ham I have ever known who won't stop exploring for food, even the good stuff (apple-y bitz).

Lastly is the wee man, the old man, the shiny boy, Goose.

We are still getting to know eachother as he doesn't like the lights being on and has only just started to stay up when it's Jin's free roam time. He's tried it a little bit himself this week and has gotten on very well! He's not handable really but doesn't freak out too much at being scooped when necessary. He's still shy and a skinny little fella despite my best efforts but he is loving having a wheel for the first time in his life and so long as he's happy I'm happy

Quick vid showing the two chunky hams. Jin being a head melt, mostly

And another of just Goose

You can see the difference in him from last week even, this is the most active he's ever been since he got here and I'm giving the credit to a cage change with easier-to-burrow-in bedding and a little underground tuff-tube runway

They are adorable!!
I love the names! Although Goose also makes me think Top Gun, and that maybe you need another hamster named Maverick

Lovely reintroduction to the ShanHams. Vids made me smile. They are all so different but that is hammies for you!

Well, he is named after the Flerkin-Cat from Captain Marvel who is named for Top Gun so, kinda? Have to admit I've never seen Top Gun because I can't stand Tom Cruise lol

As soon as I type out that Goose is a happy wee man he starts biting the mesh on the detolf. I don't know if the extra bedding just gave him that boost he needed to reach it or if the cage change has him a bit stressed. I know he bar-chewed in his old cage because he's worn the paint off a whole corner but this is a first for him with me. He's hella good at it, I can nearly feel the noise in my teeth.

Goose has also learned to climb up the back of the radiator. He either followed her scent trail up there (she's v much in heat this evening) or I think the most likely option, they've been squeaking naughty ideas across the room at each other when I'm asleep.

The chunkyhams both got weighed this evening too. Jin is a solid 198g and Goose a much less imposing 140g. Me and my partner guessed 120g for him because he looks like half the ham.

I want to try weighing Pico but I might need those tiny scales people use for illicit substances. I'd like to know her value in terms of premium... Baking powder.

Got some eco-earth for the holy terror, see below for her varied reactions

I have never seen her so nervous of anything before. She is generally a bastion of confidence, secure in her own incredible power and strength but the mushroom box? Damn.

Now It’s Good.

Haha. Dig that girl! Lovely, lively hamsters.
I really like the natural look of your set ups. Are the bits of gnarled wood from the reptile or fish or bird section of a pet shop? I have also seen greenery bits in hamster cages here but don't know what's suitable for hamsters.

Thanks! They're cork logs from zooplus, I'm very pleased with them. I think they are usually in reptile sections. They were a bit filthy when they came so I did have to give them a brush down but they're just decorative they don't seem to chew on them or anything. Would recommend!

Thanks. I'll have a look at them. Did you have to dry the eco earth in the microwave before offering it to Jin?

Did enjoy those reactions. No harm in being cautious at first but dig, dig dig....lots of good exercise going on there. However...that Yorkie bar box in the background??? Left over from Easter???
