Default Meet Chubbs - a male tortoiseshell?

Just wondering if my hamster is actually a tort or if he's something else since he is in fact male 🤔 and if I choose to breed him in the future, what kind of female should I be careful NOT to mate him with?

I don't think he is a tort. It is possible in males but very rare and it is genetically abnormal so he would most likely not be able to breed.
I think he is an Umbrous golden. The part you are thinking of as yellow patches is the part of the head when the fur is shortest and the umbrous does not show on that making the golden show though as paler orangey patches. As far as breeding him he is a banded so you would need to avoid breeding him to a female patterned animal in case there was a risk of both having the white belly gene. Colour wise it wold very much depend which if any recessives he carried. If you have a pedigree you should be able to work out what he has.

Welcome to HC!!

Btw you really shouldn’t breed from him since you don’t know his genetic background unfortunately
